Kenya moves 30 million academic credentials onto Avalanche blockchain

Kenya has launched a blockchain-based system for verifying educational credentials by way of the Kenya Nationwide Examinations Council (KNEC), putting greater than 30 million data on the Avalanche community in an effort to fight certificates fraud and make credentials simpler to confirm.

KNEC and Avalanche introduced the initiative on Monday, saying the platform is designed to handle the hundreds of cast educational certificates reported within the nation annually.

The system permits employers, universities and different establishments to confirm educational credentials onchain, making data tougher to tamper with. Whereas the verification platform is now stay, neither KNEC nor Avalanche disclosed how broadly it has been adopted by college students, employers or instructional establishments.

KNEC “is bringing tamper-proof e-certification to Kenya on Avalanche,” Avalanche stated in a video asserting the initiative.

For Avalanche, the rollout marks one of many blockchain’s largest public-sector deployments, extending its use past decentralized finance and digital belongings into authorities file verification. Nonetheless, the announcement doesn’t make clear whether or not the deployment is predicted to generate demand for Avalanche’s native token, AVAX, which was down 1.1% on Monday and stays roughly 69% beneath its stage a 12 months in the past, in line with CoinMarketCap.
