EigenLayer, the biggest Ethereum restaking protocol, will improve its rewards program to offer extra flexibility to protocols and restakers, in line with a weblog submit on December 6. The adjustments will permit third-party protocols that use EigenLayer — so-called actively validated companies (AVSs) — to distribute rewards to validators based mostly on efficiency.
They may also permit validators, or “operators,” to set price charges independently, EigenLayer stated. The upgrades will launch on the mainnet in January. Launched in 2023, EigenLayer has secured dozens of AVSs with practically $19 billion of restaked collateral, in line with DefiLlama. About 20 AVSs are already operating on the EigenLayer mainnet, with dozens extra in improvement. These embody EigenDA, an AVS run by EigenLayer developer Eigen Labs, and the ARPA Community, which focuses on trustless randomization.
On October 1, EigenLayer unveiled its personal EIGEN token. It’s designed to guard protocols from a wider vary of failures than could be addressed by present Proof-of-Stake tokens like Ether, in line with EigenLayer.
