Kuwait Cracks Down on Illegal Crypto Mining to Protect National Grid

Kuwaiti authorities are cracking down on unlawful crypto mining, with over 60 people now underneath investigation, as a part of a sweeping marketing campaign to root out unlicensed operations.

The nation’s Public Prosecution confirmed the investigations are ongoing and warned that extra suspects might be recognized within the coming weeks. The “safety operation,” carried out final Friday, focused residential properties throughout the nation suspected of internet hosting mining rigs, in keeping with native media.

The operation was coordinated by prime officers, together with Performing Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef and Minister of Electrical energy Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem. The federal government mentioned it goals to curb unauthorized energy utilization that has strained the nationwide grid and led to blackouts in some areas.

The Ministry of Electrical energy has begun disconnecting energy from mining-linked properties. Reconnection will solely be permitted with clearance from the Ministry of Inside. Officers are additionally conducting follow-up sweeps in varied neighborhoods.

Kuwait has enforced an “absolute ban on all digital asset/cryptocurrency mining actions” underneath a directive from its anti-money laundering committee that was backed by regulators together with the Nationwide Financial institution of Kuwait.
